How to write daily affirmations
Whether you're going through a tough time or just want to improve your day, affirmations can give your control over your emotions.
There are two ways to work with affirmations. The first is to google "positive affirmations" and find sentences that speak to you. I've tried this, but felt a disconnection with those sentences.
Then one day, sitting on a train to Paris, I made a list of dreams and wishes I had. Later in my hotel room, I turned that wish list into the present tense, as if I had already attained them. For those wishes that weren't quite believable, I turned them into "I'm on my way to..." This gave a feeling of movement, action.
These self-made affirmations made all the difference. I felt a surge of happiness reading them every morning.
Here was my wish list:
I want to be radiant, emanating peace, love and happiness.
I want to lose weight, be active, feel fit, and wear nicer clothes.
I want to feel connected and accepted.
I want to find motivation and energy each day.
I want to identify my priorities and focus on them.
I want to eat good food and share it with others.
I want to live pain free and sleep enough.
I want my kids to grow up secure, loved, and prepared for life.
I want to share my life with someone who can bring out the best in me and who continues to grow with me.
I want to leave a legacy, make a difference on this planet.
Then, I turned each wish into the present, as if I'd already attained that goal:
I am radiant, emanating peace, love and happiness.
I am losing weight, am active, feel fit, and wear nice clothes.
I feel connected and accepted.
I have motivation and energy each day.
I identify my priorities and focus on them.
I eat good food and share it with others.
I live pain free and sleep enough.
My kids are growing up secure, loved, and prepared for life.
I bring out the best in me and continue to grow each day.
I am leaving a legacy and making a difference on this planet.
Reading this list changed my state and set me up for a good day. Every few months or whenever the list feels stale, I write a new wish list and then transform my list.
